WHICH STRIKER DO YOU WANT TO SEE AT ARSENAL?

The search for any real news involving the mighty Arsenal is a bit thin on the ground so far today, so I'm resorting to the world of fantasy football to help you lot engage your grey cells.

We should hopefully know by this time next week whether Emmanuel Adebayor will remain an Arsenal player or not, as the Togolese striker is due to report back to the club for pre-season training on Monday when the tour of Austria begins.

I think the longer things go on, the more likely it is that Adebayor will stay, but for purposes of this task, let's say he leaves and Arsene Wenger receives somewhere in the region of £30 million for our top striker. Who do you think Le Professor should buy to replace Adebayor with that kind of budget to spend?

As you'll see from our poll, I've given you 10 choices. Each of the players has been linked with a move to the Gunners and there are some I'd obviously favour more than others, but without trying to influence the vote, I'll keep that to myself to see what you Addicts think. And if there's anyone else that you think should be included in the vote, please tell me using our comments section - if it's a valid choice I can use Polldaddy's technical wizardry to add them in.

Who's the last Russian to do well in England?

I've been thinking a lot about the Andrei Arshavin situation over the weekend.

Certainly, he is a great player, although I am still concerned why it has taken him until the age of 27 to become such a revered player.

It was said that he had his heart set on a move to Barcelona, but whether it is he fee or his wage demands, that move seems not to be developing.

Step up Dennis Lachter, Arshavin's agent, who seems to be trying to get his player a move to Emirates while all other suitors go silent.

"The stable situation in the club and the influence of Arsene Wenger to Arsenal and to English football is huge. I think this is an advantage. If Arsenal go for Arshavin it could be really good for both parties. Arsenal is a very young team and Arshavin is 27.

"There's something about combining young and older players, they propagate attacking football."

Even if you disregard Wenger's comments about the player after he struggled in Russia's final game of Euro2008, he still doesn't fit the mould of a player who Wenger would buy in terms of age and price.

If you look at players from the former Russian Federation, as well, it doesn't exactly bode well for a move to the Premiership.

Liverpool's Andrei Voronin, Chavski's Andrei Shevchenko and T*ttenh*am's Sergey Rebrov have all failed to impose themselves consistently on the English game - you have to go back to Andrei Kanchelskis a decade ago for the last player from that part of the world who really excited fans. Even our own Oleg Luzhny was hardly a great success.

Ask yourself this: would you like to see Arshavin in an Arsenal shirt? Or would a consistent goalscorer in the Huntelaar mould be a more suitable replacement for the seemingly departing Manu Adebayor?

WILL EDUARDO BE BACK FOR START OF SEASON?

I was having lunch with a bunch of fellow Gooners yesterday and inevitably the subject turned to Eduardo and his prospect of bouncing back from the horrific leg injury he suffered at Birmingham back in February.

What shocked me among my Arsenal supporting mates was the number of them who were sceptical. However, it turned out that these were also the individuals who have not seen the video of our Crozilian striker's rehabilitation at a clinic in Rio de Janeiro.

So forgive me if you've seen this footage before, but it's definitely worth watching again. This video was shot at the end of May, barely three months after Dudu had been on the verge of having his foot amputated, according to reports.

Eduardo's determination to endure the pain and build up his strength is nothing short of remarkable, given that he was told he would not be able to walk without crutches for at least six months, while being able to run or kick a ball would be a nine-month ordeal.

However, the fact that he was able to lift weights, handle a step machine and more so soon after having his plaster cast removed shows the fighting spirit of the 25-year-old. I especially like the bit where he is kicking the ball back to his physio while bouncing up and down on the trampoline. That's something I couldn't do with two good legs, never mind if I was recovering from such a vicious injury.

I reckon Arsene Wenger will reintroduce Eduardo very gradually to first team football, but it'll probably happen sooner rather than later as his efforts to bounce back to fitness definitely deserve to be rewarded.

Bear in mind as well that this video was shot about seven weeks ago, so his strength will have improved in leaps and bounds since then. At one time we were looking at our Croat hitman being sidelined until 2009, but they way things are going, don't be too surprised if he joins his team mates during the pre-season schedule. Paddy Power are only offering 14-1 for Eduardo to be the top scorer in the Premier League next season, so belief in his comeback is growing.
