POLL: What position(s) do Arsenal need to target in the transfer window?

The transfer window blows open on Thursday and for once it seems as if Arsene Wenger is ready to splash the cash, so here's your chance to give him an idea of which position we think is a priority. Or should that be positions?!

The Gunners have had a terrible start to the season - by our own high standards - but we're still in with a shout and if injuries hadn't hit the team quite as hard as they have, then our standing in the league might be a little better.

Then again, if injuries hadn't been as bad as they have been, maybe Le Gaffer would be content with the squad that he has.

Personally, I believe we need a tall, experienced centre back - and someone who is a little quicker at chasing some of the league's speedier strikers than messrs Gallas and Silvestre. No offence, they're good defenders and can hold their own in a back line and in the air, but they're don't have the swiftest feet when it comes to dealing with break-away attacks.

So without further ado, get voting by clicking on the 'read more' link to access our poll. I've made the poll multiple choice so if you think we need an entire new team, then click away...

A centerback should be our priority. Since BIrmingham, Gallas has become a liability. At present we have 2 good defenders: Sagna and Djourou. If Kolo can rediscover his form we'll have 3. Gael is an excellent player, but not a true defender. Arsene could solve some of our problems by changing the formation to account for our lack of defensive ability, using 3 at the back with Gael and Eboue on the wings - playing as advanced wingbacks - and 3 up front (Vela+RvP+____).

If a back 3 were there to just defend, with only one of the three being allowed to advance beyond the half way line at any one time, we wouldn't miss the services of a defensive midfielder so much and we could play the likes of Denilson and Ramsey in the middle together.

Which is not to say that we don't need another midfielder. We do. However, we might have more luck finding the right player if we weren't limited to trying to acquire de Rossi (and/or Veloso). Instead of a tough tackler, I'd be more inclined to try to bring in a midfielder who is hard to disposses. The best single display by any midfielder I've seen this last year was Manuel Fernandes for Valencia against Madrid. His strength on the ball, willingness to shoot from outside the area, and intelligent passing were exemplary. Moreover, he has PL experience with Portsmouth and Everton (two stints during which he showed himself to be more than capable). He would be the perfect addition to our team.

Do we need Arshavin? Not as much as we need a centerback, but he would be perfect for us in a front 3.

The defense has improved with Djourou, and I'm glad to see that Sagna is getting back to his last season form [slowly but he is getting there...], plus you can always count on clichy ;). so I think wee just need to fix the creative part, Senijad and David Silva would be great replacements for Walcott or Nasri when they need a rest , and we should try to sign Alonso one more time ...but, that's 3 players which it's unlikely to happen....... one more thing I now I'm dreaming but I would like to wake up in the morning and see Chiellini on our squad, jeje

share your opinion !
greetings from Mex. Happy new year

is this a serious question ? if anyone does not see that we need a central midfielder to replace Flamini you are quite frankly mental.
If we'd kept/replaced Flamini in the summer we would now be top of the league.
Yes, in a perfect world we could do with a keeper, wide player & centre-half too but if you seriously believe any of these are more important that the first one you should go & get interested in a simpler sport that you can undestand !
